The term started with a ceremonial handover on June 28, 2017, at the SOHO Factory in heavy rain.
On the occasion of the club's 5th anniversary, all former presidents briefly presented the highlights of their club years. The past presidents were:
2012/2013: Michael Kern
2013/2014: Agnieszka Śliwińska
2014/2015: Krzysztof Szadurski
2015/2016: Ulrich Schwendimann
2016/2017: Joanna Zmuda
After a review of the previous club year, the handover to the new board took place with the following members:
Joachim Franke – Vice President/Wiceprezydent
Dariusz Bujniewicz – President Elect, Secretary/Prezydent-Elekt, Sekretarz
Roland Sprung – Treasurer/Skarbnik
Oliver Burrak
Alexander Heinelt
Piotr Franciszkowski
Joanna Zmuda (Past President)
The new president mentioned the following points as important for the upcoming club year:
Involve members more.
Recruit new members.
Continue social engagement and launch new projects.
Make a difference in a small area.
Annual motto: "Rotary makes the difference."
An early highlight of the term was the trip to Szczecin for the Tallship Races organized by Dariusz in early August. During the summer holidays, the club met in various locations, which was highly appreciated by the members.
To better understand the wishes of the members, a member survey was conducted in the fall, with the following results:
Desire for regular evening events, even in smaller settings.
A club trip is highly desired by the majority.
Partner club with a narrow "yes" majority. The topic will be pursued, but no active search for a club will take place.
Exchange with other Warsaw clubs is desired.
Social engagement is appreciated, but time is limited. Financial support is more feasible. Ideas and projects should be defined.
Ideal club size is around 40 members.
Our two scholarships for Polish students were continued. Together with RC Mettmann, we are financing an annual scholarship at the Technical University of Berlin, and with RC Berlin Mickiewicz, we are financing an annual scholarship at Viadrina University.
We also supported the "Joyo-Help me to start" project, which helps children from difficult family backgrounds in Romania gain access to education.
Additionally, new projects were launched:
Thanks to the initiative of Fried and the significant commitment of Alex, a large swing was financed for the German-Polish Gardens, with the opening planned for fall 2018.
Additionally, Max and Piotr managed to convince the WBS to organize a school run with us. The event is scheduled for September 26, 2018.
Collaboration with the ICC Poland-Switzerland has also been established, and a joint trip will take place in Warsaw from September 16–19, 2018.
New members were welcomed during the Christmas party, including Lukas Schifferle. Fried Nielsen and Robert Edward Boroch became members of our club as of July 1. Their formal induction will take place at the next Christmas celebration. As a result, we have slightly increased our membership and start the new Rotary year with 29 members.
Our weekly lunch meetings with interesting speakers were complemented by special events, such as a first aid course and the welcoming of the Rotary Committee at the airport.
After many wonderful years at Polonia, we also changed our regular meeting venue and found a fantastic new "home" at "Der Elefant."
The handover of the presidency to the new president, Dariusz Bujniewicz, took place on August 4, 2018, at the Potocki Restaurant in Gałkowo as part of the club trip. For his exemplary social commitment during the past Rotary year, Alexander Heinelt was honored with the Paul Harris Fellow in Sapphire.
Thank you to all the members and the board for the excellent cooperation, the great commitment, and the valuable moments we shared together.
Benjamin Schwägli, President Rotary Club Warszawa Goethe 2017/2018
